Aesthetic surgery of the eyelids (blepharoplasty)

With aging many of us get excess skin and/or redistribution of fat around the eyelids that may give a tired and sad look. A visual field disturbance is rare but may occur. Aesthetic eyelid surgery is a powerful tool to help rejuvenate the upper or lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty can also serves to repair drooping eyelids and to correct/create a crease in our Asian patients.If present, excess skin can be removed with a fine inconspicuous incision in an existing skin crease and fat can be removed or relocated to help rejuvenate the eyes. In other areas fat may be grafted. The intervention can be done under local anesthesia in the outpatient clinic with or without sedation and takes around half an hour per eyelid.
It is safe to go home a few hours after the procedure. The healing phase is relatively simple but requires follow-up. There is often a little irritation, swelling and bruising following initially that progressively subside over a period of 10 days. The sutures are removed at 5 days post-op.
